Our treasurer, Jim, reported from Tloma during his visit earlier this year:
Kilimani is one of the three sub villages of Tloma village. When preschool and kindergarten classes at Tloma Primary School became extremely overcrowded, plans were developed to have some of those students join another school. The proposed school was a good distance away and involved these little ones having to cross a dangerous river during rainy seasons. Parents petitioned the national government to complete a kindergarten that had begun to be built years earlier but had remained dormant. The government complied and built an additional two rooms for classes.
These are some of the students who will be attending that school. They will be missing one of their teachers, however; a young man who was killed because someone wanted his cell phone. He had been volunteer team-teaching there for a year and had been looking forward to having his own class this year. This is a tragic and tremendous loss to the community. The search is now on for another teacher to take his place.
