Generous donors have provided the funds to begin construction on the water catchment system. And just in time. April is the middle of the ‘long rains’, or main rainy season in Tanzania. The video shows one of the water storage tanks for the catchment system being delivered to the school.
Piping, fittings, and other materials have also arrived. Gutters are being attached to the roof of the building next to where the tanks have been placed. The weather has cooperated and there has not been much rain during the construction period. We hope to have construction completed shortly and ready to collect the water when the rains do resume.
Once fully built out, the catchment system will be able to capture rainwater that otherwise runs uncollected off the school’s roofs. The school will soon have another source of clean, fresh water for preparing school lunches, handwashing and other hygiene, and irrigating the school’s garden.
